The Swarovski Compact Tripod Head works perfectly with most binoculars despite the weight being under 7 hg.
This is due to the built-in balance spring which can be controlled so that both rear or front heavy pieces stay in position even without having to lock the tilt knob just to do a scope sweep. You can also disconnect it easily by turning the knob directly to the left of the joystick attachment. Payload is 4kg on the cast aluminum housing, which in all essentials is completely reminiscent of Gitzo's GHF2W head, but here in black with Swarovski's "der Habicht logo". The knob is somewhat simpler in design, but the function is identical. The ArcaSwiss compatible quick release plate comes with a 3/8'' screw mounted with a finger grip, but you can also tighten it with a flat head screwdriver or a coin. The plate is 70x55 mm and also - unlike Gitzos - equipped with "anti-rotation pins". The control lever is 34 cm long and can be angled in different positions.
