Stockholm's archipelago, with its multitude of islands, cobbles and skerries, is one of Sweden's few truly unique natural environments.
In this book, which received the award Panda Book of the Year 2024 from WWF, the famous nature photographer Claes Grundsten depicts the nature of the area in exquisite images and informative texts. The photographs show the changes in the landscape during different seasons and in changing weather. Views, geological details, plants and animals are portrayed with aesthetic elegance, where the texts mix facts and personal experiences. Claes Grundsten is a photographer and author and has produced more than 35 books. In 1993, he became a full-time freelancer after having previously worked as an investigator for 15 years at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Stockholm University named him an honorary doctorate in 2011 for his descriptions of nature.
Appointed Panda Book of the Year 2024 by WWF. From the jury's justification: "Claes Grundsten allows us to get close to the wilderness of the archipelago, both emotionally and concretely, in a way that only exceptional artistic skill combined with great outdoor experience can achieve."
"The photography is world-class. Spectacular landscape images dominate, but plants and animals are also among the motifs. /.../ The book is a masterpiece to be enjoyed by a wide public, but especially for those interested in nature and photography or those with some relation to Stockholm's archipelago Review BTJ, no. 22/2023, overall grade: 5 (brilliant), lecturer Tom Hermansson Snickars
