Odla örter is an inspiring, comprehensive and beautifully illustrated handbook. Here is how to get started with your spice garden, how to take care of it and make it thrive.
We learn which soil is best for which plant, what tools and equipment are needed and which spices are the easiest to grow. The book also gives clear instructions about when in the year to sow, when to look after and when to harvest. Here are tips on how to use the herbs, for example recipes for pesto and for various herbal drinks that are said to be good for different things: mint for upset stomachs, ginger for nausea and chamomile for relaxation. Here it is described how oil can be flavored, as well as vinegar and drinks. You can learn how to tie a beautiful wreath of your herbs and how to dry them. You can read about which herbs are suitable for what: cooking, baking, flavoring in drinks, or for cut flowers and garden flowers. Butterflies, bees and bumblebees love herbs, so by growing herbs in the garden you contribute to biodiversity.
The book is published in collaboration with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in Great Britain. It is one of the world's most respected botanical gardens where plants have been cultivated for more than 250 years and has the world's most diverse cultivation with more than 19,000 different species. Holly Farrell is a gardener and has published a number of books on growing and gardening, including Grow Your Own Miniature Garden (Lind & Co, 2018).
"The content is inspiring and factually comprehensive for anyone who wants to plan, grow and harvest in their own spice garden."
