Sirui PH-20 is a so-called Gimbal head, i.e. a rotating swing arm in very strong carbon fiber.
Primarily, this type of head is used by photographers with large and heavy telephoto lenses, but the fact is that it works very well with binoculars as well. So for the modern birder, equipped with both camera equipment and binoculars, this may be a sensible option. However, it is important to lift the tube high enough on the swing arm, that the "pendulum effect" is reduced. Then the difference compared to working with a normal video head is actually not that great. A feeling of weightlessness occurs when handling both heavy telephoto and binoculars. The L platform that hangs from the swing arm is made of forged aluminum and can be moved vertically. The quick release plate is - as on all Sirui - Arca Swiss compatible and equipped with double screws (1/4 inch). It also comes with a 3/8'' adapter. The tilt/swing function is locked with a large knob at the top of the swing arm and pan with a smaller knob at the base. It also comes with a small quick-connect adapter that can be attached to the swing arm attachment, in order to thus have the option of attaching a camera housing for, for example, portrait images. The head comes in a nice compartmentalized carrying case, perfect if you're on the go.
