Previously the most common video head of the so-called micro type from Manfrotto is an almost classic design that has existed largely unchanged for three decades now.
Suitable for all types of binoculars except possibly the largest and heaviest. The quick plate 200PL is included, but can also be purchased separately, see linked articles. Simple handling with two knobs to keep track of; one for the vertical damping (tilt) which sits on the left side (when mounting the joystick right-hand) and a central one under the "bridge" for the horizontal damping (pan). However, the head lacks the finesse of the more expensive heads with a built-in balance spring, so be prepared to lock the left knob when you release the equipment, otherwise a normal-sized scope will "dip" forward or backward. It works to have the control lever for left-hand grip, but then the release of the quick release plate ends up facing forward and that's not really the point. It is important that the quick plate is correctly mounted in its "cradle" and locked with the thumb grip, which also has a safety lock. The plate is delivered with a guide pin which is now plastic (formerly metal). In the feet of many binoculars it is possible to fit this pin to counteract lateral rotation to some extent, but not in all. In some, you have to carve down the pin a little to make it fit in the binoculars' slightly smaller hole. See further below for additional tips.
