Knowledge of the regional distribution of rocks and soils as well as their origin, i.e. the geological development, is a necessary prerequisite for geological work in an area.
This applies to both basic research and the solution of practical problems. The book is divided into three sections, corresponding to the main components of Sweden's geology: the crystalline primeval rock, the younger sedimentary bedrock and the loose soil layers. These sections constitute separate parts, which may well be read independently of each other. In all sections, the geological development during the respective time period is treated. This is done with an emphasis on the regional distribution of the various rocks and soils. This book is intended both as a handbook and an academic textbook in Sweden's regional geology.
