In this guide to Swedish butterflies, roughly 180 species, subspecies, forms and temporary visitors are described.
The opening section describes the creation of the book, how it is structured, terminology, literature and little else. The book is richly illustrated and the butterflies are accompanied by photographs of the male, female and underside. Texts describe and arrows point out a typical character. The distributions, frequency and flight times of the various butterflies are presented with graphic images. The book was produced by Sven Birkedal, nature lover and photographer from Åhus. Nils Ryrholm has been responsible for supplementary texts and descriptions, scientific review, distribution maps, flight times, etc. The book is the third in our series about plants and animals in Sweden. Previously, "Lichens - a field guide" and "Moss a field guide" have been published.
