This field manual covers all of Sweden's approximately 1,100 large butterflies - that is, all diurnal and nocturnal butterflies including some families of small butterflies, which are traditionally counted as large butterflies. All species are shown with photographs at rest in their natural environment. A number of species-characteristic larvae are also depicted. All species are also shown as life-size prepared specimens, on 89 color plates. The text describes the characteristics of the families, subfamilies and the specific species, confusing species, flight time, overwintering stage, host plants as well as distribution and occurrence in Sweden. All families, subfamilies and species are listed with the Swedish and international scientific names
