Öland has still preserved much of its unique, varied natural and cultural landscape. Together with the calcareous bedrock, this makes Öland Sweden's most orchid-rich landscape, second only to Gotland.
The book describes most of Öland's 38 species. From May to September, the orchids replace each other. The party begins with the mass flowering of Adam and Eve, cuckoo's keys and St. Peter's keys on the elver's meadows, and continues with spurge, nightshade and meadowsweet until the finale, when forest bundle root, knee root and screw wax end the orchids' flowering in September. Thorsten Jansson is an author, lecturer and nature guide and has studied the orchids in the Öland landscape for four decades. This is the third, expanded edition of the book.
