The Ark of the Nordics and the fight for endangered animals
Lena M Lindén is the biologist who, through the play of coincidences, got the chance to develop Nordens Ark from a first fleeting thought to today's operations with around seventy animal species in enclosures, close to a hundred thousand visitors a year and field operations around the world - from the Swedish mountains to the steppes of Mongolia . Today, the operations at the old Åby farm in Bohuslän are internationally respected, and part of a global effort to save endangered animal species. On that autumn evening in 1986 when everything began, no one had a clue where the journey would lead, least of all Lena herself. What she did have was a deep commitment, not to say a love, for animals, especially cats. And a promise to himself to never fail again. Once is enough.
Med näbbar och klor is a personal and humorous story about how the bird watcher who didn't know what an income statement was started and built a business from scratch and which today has 50 employees and a turnover of 50 million. It is about obstacles and opportunities, about crises and successes, about animals and people. And not least about fear and the art of overcoming it.
