This book describes vascular plants, mosses, lichens and fungi that can be used as practical tools and indicators of forests worthy of protection.
In addition, descriptions of different biotopes and their care needs are given. The book is an important source of knowledge for anyone with an interest in forests, trees and nature conservation. An important environmental goal is to preserve biological diversity. The forest landscape has recently undergone major changes and some forest environments only remain as smaller residual biotopes with high protection values. To be able to make qualified nature value assessments, and to distinguish trivial areas from those worthy of protection, knowledge of different nature conservation species is required. This book describes vascular plants, mosses, lichens and fungi that can be used as practical tools and indicators of forests worthy of protection. In addition, descriptions of different biotopes and their care needs are given. Conservation species is a summary term for signal species, red-listed species and legally protected species. These species can be likened to the letters of an alphabet that help us "read" and understand the conservation quality of the forest and trees. Different forest environments harbor completely different nature conservation species and the species are therefore presented under eight overarching environmental chapters. If a species occurs in several environments, there are cross-page references. The book wants to contribute to a progressively deepened knowledge of our conservation species and what they can tell us. The hope is that the book will become a source of inspiration, eye-opener and enrich your time in the forest.
