The Leica Noctivid began shipping in the spring of 2017 as the long-established brand's flagship.
If it tastes like it, it costs too, but if you haven't looked into a Noctivid, we advise you to do so, in every detail the model deserves the "Die Rote Punkt" stamp. In a brand new design approach in a robust magnesium housing with "open bridge technology", the German engineers have packed Leica's best HD lenses with 92 percent light transmission. Both tubes are connected in two links, where the upper one also carries the focusing wheel with a new built-in dioptre adjustment. The old classic "Dual Drive" concept with double focusing wheels, which in principle enabled completely individual focusing, is thus gone. The eyecups are new with as many as five different click positions and in the fully screwed down position exposes perhaps the largest eyepiece lenses on the market, on a pair of binoculars. This of course guarantees very good glasses adaptation, completely in line with Leica's tradition. The clams can be easily removed with a bayonet motion for easier access when cleaning. During the construction, great importance has been placed on as natural a view as possible, which can be compared to a genuine extension of the human eye. Field of vision and close range are very good world class. Of course, Noctivid is gas-filled for full tightness down to a depth of five meters. The outer lenses are also equipped with Leica's "Aqua-Dura", a nano-coating that repels water droplets and dirt. A possible disadvantage, in the true sense of the word, is the relatively high weight compared to some somewhat lighter competitors. Comes with a cut neoprene strap, eyepiece and lens protectors in rubber and a cordura bag.
