Pentax has recently upgraded its entire range of handheld binoculars with a unified design and new, more effective anti-reflective treatments.
The somewhat odd magnification ratio of 9x makes the SD 9x42 WP an interesting option for those who think 8x is too little but 10x is too much. Nitrogen filled, glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate housing that is rubber reinforced with an open center, makes the binoculars very easy to grip and hold firmly. The weight is also kept reasonably low despite the large light opening. Screw-type eyecups with several intermediate positions that offer a full field of vision even for eyeglass wearers in the screwed-down position. Soft and easy-to-work focusing wheel with a distinct feel. The diopter adjustment is traditionally located on the right eyepiece and is not lockable. The binoculars are waterproof to a depth of one meter and optically, special emphasis has been placed on a special coating to obtain maximum light transmission. The exit pupil is 4.6 mm on this model, which is sufficient even in very demanding situations with low light. Supplied with case, simpler textile strap and eyepiece protection in plastic and integrated lens caps in rubber. These hang on the front center link but can be removed for those who don't want them in the field.
Note the long warranty period!
