Leica's spotting scope concept is now based solely on an eyepiece, the fantastic wide-angle zoom 25-50x WW ASPH.
A button in the back of the tube locks the eyepiece in the bayonet. The tube body is now compact and relatively lightweight due to the magnesium chassis with full rubber reinforcement. The Dual-Drive system with a high- and a low-geared focus wheel remains from its predecessor. The lens is 82 mm in diameter and is only available with fluorite lenses for the highest possible contrast, accurate color reproduction and sharpness. The tube is filled with nitrogen gas for full tightness against dust, water and dirt. The tube foot is relatively large and adapted to be clicked directly into, for example, Manfrotto's 128RC head. Retractable lens hood with sight markings (which are however useless as the eyepiece obscures the view!). It is technically possible to mount a protective filter, but then the anti-cheek protection cannot be pulled out. A tailored emergency bag is available as an accessory for those who wish to protect their tube a little extra.
