To meet market demands for the increasingly popular compact travel binoculars, Opticron has developed a 60mm model that lacks the more advanced ED glass.
The MM3 60 GA/45 is otherwise identical to its sibling the MM4 60 GA ED/45, i.e. a very handy travel companion that is not far behind full-scale tubes. The lack of ED glass (Extra low Dispersion) is hardly noticeable until you possibly try to document through the tube with, for example, a mobile camera, when a certain amount of color bleeding can be noticed. The MM3 60 GA/45 has a rubber-reinforced housing in a mixture of polycarbonate and light metal and with a full-scale tube foot on a ring that makes the tube tiltable 90 degrees to the sides. The weight and format are on par with ordinary 42 mm binoculars. Focusing is handled very smoothly and easily with two centrally located dials - one for fast coarse focusing and a low gear for fine adjustment. The tube is supplied with a rubber objective cap that remains attached even in the field and can be fitted with a range of eyepieces which are linked here (see also below). If you already own a full Opticron tube, the same eyepiece can be used! Paired with the cheap HR3 zoom, you get an extremely affordable combination! Also complete with one of the two available bags, and you also have shock and dirt protection for your tube. Short and light - the perfect travel companion that justifies the name "giant dwarf"!
