"This is the story of all the birds in my garden and how I got them to move in."
As an adult, Susanne Åkesson buys a house in a small village in Skåne. The house is old and the garden of 1290 square meters partly grown up, bare but with potential. A desire to create something new is awakened and she begins bit by bit to transform the garden into a place where both people and birds can thrive. The ambition was to create an attractive place for birds, with good and safe habitats, food, shelter and water, and to place nest boxes, water baths and plants to contribute to a richer local environment. The change happened gradually, one piece of the garden at a time. Today, twenty years later, twenty species of birds live in her small garden, along with hedgehogs, bats, frogs and multitudes of pollinating insects.
Starting to enrich your garden with possible habitats is a good start to having a garden that benefits animal life and that provides a richer harvest, helps against pests and contributes to diversity. In this book, Susanne Åkesson summarizes what she has achieved during the more than twenty years she has taken care of the garden in a Scanian village and tells about all the fantastic experiences she has had on the way to a richer bird garden.
