HBW is the most remarkable publishing project on birds ever conceived and executed, the first work ever to illustrate all the species of birds in the world, in addition to providing access to all the essential information about each one of them. In fact, it will be the first work ever to deal with each member of an entire Class of the Animal Kingdom. HBW volume 1 was published in 1992, and the final, 16th volume was presented at the end of 2011. This is however, not the end of the HBW project. In the 20 years that have passed since this project started, some new species have been discovered. A Special Volume covers and illustrates all these 57 (or more now) species, with texts, plates and distribution maps in typical HBW format. That volume was published in mid 2013.
Lynx has now published a checklist in association with Birdlife. See it in the right margin; HBW and Birdlife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World. These two volumes include the original artwork, and the most essential facts of the HBW series.
